From a 5×12 Storage Unit to SIS Home Essentials

How SIS Home Essentials Began

SIS Home Essentials didn't begin with a big warehouse, a team of employees, or some perfectly mapped-out business plan.

It started with two people looking for a new direction.

For more than a decade, one half of our little team worked as a mental health counselor in Washington, D.C., dedicating countless hours to helping people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Then came an especially difficult season.

The demands of the mental health field, the weight of working through the COVID-19 pandemic, and the loss of multiple family members eventually became too much. After more than ten years in the profession, it was time to step away.

But stepping away created a different challenge.

Helping people had been such a big part of life for so long that simply staying home didn't feel right either. There had to be another chapter.

Fortunately, the other half of this team happens to be a serial entrepreneur who rarely encounters a situation that can't be answered with:

"I have an idea."

And this time, the idea was pretty simple.

What if we could build something together that still made people's lives a little better, just without the life-or-death pressure?

Admittedly, it took some convincing.

Okay... maybe a lot of convincing.

But eventually, we took a chance.

There wasn't much room.

But there was enough room to start.

What began as a small operation inside a 5×12 storage unit slowly became something bigger. We learned as we went, made mistakes, celebrated every little win, packed orders, found products we believed in, and kept building.

One order became another.

The storage-unit business grew.

And somewhere along the way, the thing we started as an experiment became the thing both of us wanted to do full time.

Today, that's SIS Home Essentials.

What We Believe

Our mission doesn't have to be complicated.

We look for products from trusted brands that can make the everyday moments at home more comfortable, convenient, enjoyable, or simply a little easier.

Where We Are Today

What started in a 5×12 storage unit has grown into something we never could have fully imagined when we packed those first orders.

SIS Home Essentials isn't just a business we built. In a small way, it's the business that helped rebuild us.

It gave us a fresh start, a new purpose, and the opportunity to create something together that we're genuinely proud of.

And while a lot has changed since those early days, the idea behind SIS Home Essentials hasn't.
